May/October are my favorite months here. But I think if I lived in Seattle i'd probably like July/August/September.

I`m not sure what my favorite month is as I`ve never really thought about it. But guess if I had to pick one and why, guess I would go with April as that is typically our peak convective season as we are more likely to see thunder showers with possible ice pellets and gusty breezes.

Will it be another cool month for us? Will we get a stronger than usual trough? The one thing I am sure of, no snow. Not sure which month is my favorite. It might be March. We can get snow, t-storms, and gorgeous weather in that month. Also, I love the early flowers and the new leaves trying to come out on the trees.

For what the CPC seasonal outlook shows, dadio, we`ll have EC(Equal Chances) of being below normal or normal or above normal temps for what looks to be through Oct/Nov. But Dec 2010-June 2011 shows slightly below normal temperatures over the PNW. And then for precip, it also has EC for Aug/Sept for us to either have below normal, normal or above normal precip. But the Sept 2010-April 2011, looks like it`s possible for us to see above normal precip.

August will be slightly cooler than normal and somewhat cloudier (lotsa morning clouds).

My ranking of months, weatherwise:
Dec - Best chance of cold/snow in recent years
Jan - Next best chance of cold/snow in recent years
Oct - Most rapid transition
Aug - Warm and sunny, chance of thunderstorms (+tropics)
Jul - Warm and sunny
Sep - Generally warm and sunny, beginning of transition (+tropics)
Nov - First chance of a little snow
Feb - Februaries have sucked in the cold/snow department for most of my life
May - Can be warm, which is nice... but can also be crappy
Mar - Even the small chance of snow sucks, since it's wet and lasts 5 minutes
Apr - Even worse... crappy weather with hardly any breaks. Only consolation is small hail
Jun - The month that should be more like July, and ends up being more like April/May

Thanks, Andy for the info. I have seen some similar thoughts on a Canadian weather site.

I hope that you are right about the chance of thunderstorms in August. Of course this year if you are right with it being cooler that will not help us. What is the (+tropics) mean?

After being here nearly a year, I'll have to say January is or can be the best month here. Lots of sunny and cold days, large snowpack, no wind, and minimal clouds. February and March also can be described like that but they're prone to higher temperatures which isn't good with snow on the ground.

May is the ugliest and the sunniest month here. Therefore, I will have to say June is the best non-winter month here, since it is still pretty sunny, everything is green, and there is still considerable snow on the mountains. Late September/early October can't be beat for fall color with early snow though. It's definitely the most beautiful time of year.

So the best here are:
January
June
September

October consistently good weather in the 70's here
May - Usually a good month, slightly prone to heatwaves, but stays in the 70's 90% of the time. Also a good month for t-storms.
October- Another great month, it can sometimes get pretty rainy here. But generally high's in the 60's and sunny.
September- Another good month, comfortable temperatures, but like may it sometimes can get pretty hot. In my experience not very good for t-storms.
December - Definitely the snowiest month, sometimes too cold, and inversion prone.
January - The other snowy month, but can be too cold also gets a lot of inversions.
June - June heat is tolerable, mostly in the 80's, and also brings good thunderstorms.
April - Very wild month, sometimes has good weather, but wind and spring storms sometimes make it miserable.
February- The worst winter month, never snows and there is always an inversion for weeks during it. I haven't seen it get cold here in February. Rarely capable of producing 40's and sunny weather.
November - Slightly worse than January, but inversion/rainy weather outnumbers the good weather by far.
August- Too hot, slightly better than July.
July - Too hot.
March- Absolute worst month, even worser then the hot summer months. Rain & wind, never snows.

Mine's a little different

July- Better thunderstorm month than August, more heat, longer days
December- Christmas, short days, and lately the focus of all our winter weather
October- Foliage, first cold nights, first storms, probably our most variable month
May- First warm days, spring in full bloom, easily our best thunderstorm month
January- Winter loses some of its novelty
August- Summer loses some of its novelty
November- Stormy and gray, sometimes can be endearing though
September- Pretty boring but at least it's pleasant
June- First half is way too mucky usually
February- Usually our sunniest month until July, which is lame
March- Pretty dreary, just a crappy transition month
April- Our least interesting month, in addition to being unpleasant and dank.

Coastal Radar

Looks like the Langley Hill site is the best pick for the site.

Warning, this PDF is 32 mb. Now I know where all of our tax dollars go :)

GFS shows potential thunderstorms over the Cascades for most of the week. Some of those days there is some pretty big rainfall totals shown.

Nothing down here... as the flow will keep them moving north and east like they did today.

Still... you could go storm chasing is you wanted.
